What is Messiah? Print E-mail

The Messiah will be the person from the line of King David who will bring about the Messianic Era. This era will be a time of universal peace. Hunger, diseases and suffering will cease to exist any longer.  Imagine a perfect Utopia here on earth. Christian's and Jews differ on who the Messiah is.  Christian's believe that Jesus is the Messiah.  Jews believe that the Messiah has yet to come.

Webster's dictionary defines "Messiah" as:

1a: the expected king and deliverer of the Jew

b: Jesus

2: a professed or accepted leader of some hope or cause

Why is this relevant?

The book of Isaiah was written approximately 700 years before the birth of Jesus.  The prophet Isaiah had this to say about the future Messiah:

Isaiah 53:5-6, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Comment: Multiple times in the New Testament, Jesus perdicts his own crucifixion and willingly accepts it because of man's imperfection. He fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah by being a willing sacrifice.

Why should you care and why this concerns everyone?

Everyone on this planet is guilty of sin(myself included). There is a price that must be paid for sin. Jesus willingly paid that price for us as a sacrifce on the cross so that we can spend eternity in his kingdom. You will certainly die one day. Without Jesus, you are unable to pay the price of sin.

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
